A bit of history...
The village of Borgo Priolo was officially created in 1929 from the fusion between the ancient municipalities of Staghiglione and Torre del Monte, the inhabitants of which date back to the Longobarda period, even there is proof of remains of clothes from the Roman era.
As Borgo Priolo was part of the Montebello stronghold it was passed onto the heirs after the death of Claudio Beccaria (1629) and it was sold by them to the Ducal Chamber who, in turn, sold it to Pio Beccaria in 1692.
This stronghold was reduced in 1758 and given to Giovanni Dattili in 1793.
Not to be missed...
Borgo Priolo had a Castle, the remains of which can still be seen enclosed in the residential agglomerate of the centre, in the middle of the village the parish church dedicated to S. Carlo can be found. In the surrounding area the Stefanago Castle is not to be missed, an ancient residence of the Malaspina and the Dal Verme families.
